Metal Detecting Etiquette

Every time a detectorist goes out into the field, he or she should follow these simple metal detecting etiquette suggestions to encourage the hobby and promote safety. I follow these every time I hunt. Hey, integrity is a virtue, right? Let's keep it Pro!

 

• Always follow the rules and regulations of metal detecting in public areas.

 

• Always fill your holes! Never leave a hole or plug exposed. Fill it back in neatly.

 

• Always collect each target, even if it is junk and dispose of it properly.

• Leave the site cleaner than you found it.

• Always ask permission to metal detect private property. If denied, be polite and thank the owner for their time. Maybe ask if they know of anyone that might be interested?

 

• If your detecting is a nuisance to someone, consider going somewhere else, even if you know you are allowed to be there. Maybe return at a later date?
